  1. I am on 1200mg of Epilim a day. I have noticed that I get severe headaches, have increased appetite and my vision has deteriorated. Any one with the same problems???

    • Hi Mel, I haven’t had any of those side-effects however I always refer to a book called The Prescriber’s Guide _ Stahl’s Essential Psychopharmacology by Stephen M Stahl.

In this book he lists the possible side-effects of Epilim as being: seadation, tremor, dizziness, headache, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, reduced appetite, constipation, dyspepsia, weight gain (common), alopecia (unusual).

Strangely enough it can also be used to treat migraine. I have also read a couple of websites that have said it can cause blurry or double vision but that these side-effects are not common. I’d suggest that you speak with your psychiatrist, especially if you have had these symptoms for awhile.

  2. Hello my husband has bi-polar disorder and for the past 6 weeks has been on Pristiq 400mg daily and Epilim 1000mg daily. He has turned into a monster, he has unusual behaviour, is drinking excessively, has a total lack of sex drive is aggressive, moody and irritable. Are you experiencing any of these symptoms been on these two medications?

    • Hi Claire, No, I didn’t have any of those side-efects when taking Epilim (which I still do at 2000mg) and Pristiq (which I have now ceased). Lack of sex drive seems to be a common side-effect for many meds but as your husband has a range of changes to his behaviour I would suggest returning to the prescribing psychiatrist as soon as possible. Everyone reacts differently to each med so it is hard to say whether any of your husband’s behaviours are common (plus of course I’m not qualified to do so), but whenever I have a problem I contact my psychiatrist straight away, even by phone if necessary. Good luck with what can be a rough journey
